Rising up from the dirt like gnarled old tree stumps, old vine vineyards dot the valley’s landscape. These plantings pay homage to a rich history, weaving a 150-year-old story of a place first settled by Italian immigrants. This history, coupled with our passion for Zinfandel, played a central role in our decision to continue the tradition of old vine, head prune vineyards with the replanting of part of our original 55-acre property - an old school Zinfandel vineyard.
Dry Creek Vineyard was founded by David S. Stare in 1972. Dave arrived in California with a dream to build a winery modeled after a chateau from the Loire Valley of France. As the first new winery in Dry Creek Valley following Prohibition, Dry Creek Vineyard paved the way for a whole new era of winemaking in Sonoma County.
"When Dry Creek gets it right, few wineries anywhere can beat their Zins. Somers Ranch is in the eastern hills, where it gets the full benefit of the afternoon sun. The wine is impressive in ripe blackberries, currants, licorice and cocoa, but maintains a beautiful structure, with soft, fine tannins and just-in-time acidity."
"This is the second vintage of our premier Meritage blend, The Mariner. Utilizing all five of the noble Bordeaux varieties, this wine displays compelling aromas of wild black cherry, blue-berry, and dried flowers. On the palate, the fruit shines through with succulent cherry, dark chocolate, and cassis that integrate seamlessly with silky smooth tannins."
